Biodynamic farming in France’s Cótes de Toul

Once flourishing, vineyards in the Alsace/Lorraine area were destroyed by 3 consecutive French-German wars before being revived in the early 1950’s by several local families, including the Lelièvres. Nearly 70 years later, vines are blossoming and the Cotes de Toul appellation is back on the map, benefiting from a “cuesta” topography similar to that of Burgundy.

The Côtes de Toul appellation has everything of a great Terroir: limestone soils laid on the foothills of the Paris basin, a brutal climate, rainfall well drained by a relief that offers a beautiful diversity of exposure to the sun.

Operated by the third generation, brothers David and Vincent manage the estate. Vincent is in charge of production and David of management.

The 20 acre estate grows 4 varieties organically: Gamay, Pinot Noir, Auxerrois and Pinot Gris grown in 4 of the 8 villages of the Côtes de Toul producing area.
