Rouvalis
Peloponnese, Greece | Aigialeia PGI
Organic, heroic viticulture practices
The Peloponnese, a massive extension at the end of an isthmus coming from Athens, passing Corinthian beaches, it rises from an undulating azure blue shoreline to snow capped mountains, dramatic valleys, and is a breathtaking beauty. There are 8 main regions, 24 PGII and 10 PDO. At the very northernmost part is Aigialeia PGI.
Founders Marcos & Theodora met while working as enologists and crossed paths too many times and finally came to the conclusion it was inevitable at Frederick Mgnien in Burgundy where they became a couple and then married. Returning to Greece, they took over for Theodora’s Dad at Rouvalis just a few years ago and have started a family.
The Vineyards
A 4×4 is required to get the parcels of vines 800-1300 meters above the sea. The vineyards are organically farmed and hand picked mainly out of necessity as they are parcels in 2 areas of steep hills and valley where two large mountains meet, in fact one part is called Syracho meaning “where the mountains meet.” The other family vineyard is called Fragosykiia and has been renovated by the family in recent years with new viticultural techniques that are so successful they have been adopted by other growers. The vineyards have a dramatic sea view.
