Spain | Castilla y Leon | Ribera del Duero
Ribera del Duero, where terroir and microclimate meet to invite the utmost expression of the Tempranillo grape.
In the 1990s, La Rioja Alta decided to try their luck in the Ribera del Duero, where terroir and microclimate meet to invite the utmost expression of the Tempranillo grape. They chose to name this new venture Bodegas Áster, after a Spanish flower that blooms at harvest. The vineyard, at 2,490 ft above sea level, is in locality of La Horra and Anguix. Seventy-six of its ninety-five hectares were planted in 1991 and are now fully productive. The Áster winery was built in 2002 with a timeless beauty. It currently houses 2,700 French and American oak casks, which are used alternately depending on the characteristics of the crop.
